Intro to Wine & Food
This one-day course is designed for someone curious newcomers to the world of natural wine. Whether you have just started a job in hospitality, considering a change of careers or are just interested in learning more about what you drink, this course is for you.
This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to talk to customers about organic, biodynamic and natural wines with the enthusiasm that these delicious, artisan products deserve.
During the day, you will taste a selection of wine and food giving you the chance to practice tasting and food pairing techniques while making new friends who are as curious about wine as you are.
Lunch is included - enjoy a plate of cheese and charcuterie from Provisions - all washed down with a glass of wine!
WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR
The course does not assume any knowledge of food and wine and provides a back-to-basics approach to ensure that you have a solid foundation to build on.
This course is equally well suited to those working in restaurants, wine bars, hybrids and shops.
If you're not working in the wine industry, there is plenty here for you. You'll learn how to describe what you want when buying wine and learn how to talk about wine with curious friends and family.

Lesson 1 - Grape Growing & Tasting Terroir
An introduction to terroir. Discover how climate and soil impact the style and quality of a wine. Learn how climate change is impacting winemakers and how we are adapting to reduce the impact of viticulture on the environment.
Lesson 2 - Winemaking
Discover how winemaking can influence the style and quality of a wine. Learn the basics of white, skin-contact, red and rosé winemaking. Learn about how wine is manipulated in the cellar and why many winemakers are moving away from conventional winemaking practices.
Lesson 3 - Food and Wine
Learn about the relationship between food and wine. Try your hand at matching different styles of wine and food to put your newfound skills to the test.
Lesson 4 - Wine Service
Learn how to serve wine like a pro. An introduction to common wine faults and what can be done about them.
Lesson 5 - Wine Sales and Communication
Discuss how to filter complex technical information about a wine into engaging and easy-to-understand stories which will excite and enthuse your customers, guests and friends.
